Yet of the more than 10,000 holders of a <strong>FIFA agent licence<\/strong>, only 1,559 agents received a fee paid by a club that year. These figures clearly show the reality of a <strong>FIFA agent salary<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>The word \"salary\" is, in fact, misleading. Unless they are employed by an agency, a players' agent receives no fixed pay. Instead, they earn <strong>commissions<\/strong>, known under FIFA rules as service fees, which depend on the contracts they negotiate and which only a proportion of agents actually receive.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>To understand in practical terms <strong>what a FIFA agent can earn<\/strong>, you need to look at how they are paid, the income observed at the start of a career, the costs to plan for and the main drivers of success.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:image {\"id\":69844,\"sizeSlug\":\"large\",\"linkDestination\":\"none\"} --><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img src=\"https:\/\/cdn.fifa.sportsagentinstitute.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/25120207\/crea-salaire-agent-fifa-en-1024x632.webp\" alt=\"A beginner FIFA agent does not really earn a salary. Caps set by the FFAR, national rules on minors, licensing costs and the factors that shape early earnings, this is an honest look at the economics of the profession for FIFA agent exam candidates.\" class=\"wp-image-69844\"\/><\/figure>\n<p><!-- \/wp:image --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:heading --><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How is a FIFA agent paid?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><!-- \/wp:heading --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>A FIFA agent is <strong>paid through service fees<\/strong>, which are paid by the player, coach or club they represent when negotiating an employment contract or a transfer. There is no standard salary and no pay scale.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>A sports agent's pay<\/strong> therefore depends on the number of deals completed, the salaries of the players represented and the party that engages them.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:heading {\"level\":3} --><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Fee-based pay, not a salary<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><!-- \/wp:heading --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>Pay depends directly on the deals completed<\/strong>: without a signature, the agent earns nothing, even after many hours spent prospecting or advising a player. The FIFA Football Agent Regulations (FFAR) also set a maximum term of two years for a representation agreement with a player, which means agents must regularly renew their clients' trust.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Calculated on the player's salary, the <strong>service fee<\/strong> may be paid in instalments over the course of the contract. Income is therefore irregular by nature, especially with a portfolio of only a few players.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>The FFAR establishes the principle that <strong>the client pays their agent<\/strong>. A club may nevertheless pay the service fee on the player's behalf when the player's annual remuneration is below USD 200,000. The fee is invoiced and then paid in <strong>quarterly instalments<\/strong>, after the registration period closes and for the entire duration of the negotiated contract. If the contract is terminated early or the player is transferred, Article 14 of the FFAR in principle deprives the agent of the remaining instalments, a rule that the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) found to be restrictive of competition in the RRC Sports case (C-209\/23).<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:heading {\"level\":3} --><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Self-employed or employed by an agency: two business models<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><!-- \/wp:heading --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Most agents work on a <strong>self-employed<\/strong> basis, often through their own company. They keep the full amount of their service fees, but bear the costs and the risk of a season without a deal on their own.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Others join an agency as <strong>employees<\/strong>, with a fixed and a variable component set out in their employment contract. This model provides access to a network and established clients, in return for a reduced share of the fees. In both cases, the licence remains personal, as the FFAR only grants it to individuals.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:heading {\"level\":3} --><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How is the service fee calculated?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><!-- \/wp:heading --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>The service fee is calculated on the components that make up <a href=\"https:\/\/fifa.sportsagentinstitute.com\/en\/blog\/football-salaries\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"68784\">salaries in professional football<\/a>, with some excluded, such as benefits in kind and conditional payments (match or performance bonuses, for example). To benchmark a player's salary against the market before negotiating, agents can also rely on salary databases such as <a href=\"https:\/\/fifa.sportsagentinstitute.com\/en\/blog\/capology\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"14576\">Capology<\/a>, which distinguish verified contracts from mere estimates. Article 15 of the <a href=\"https:\/\/fifa.sportsagentinstitute.com\/en\/subject\/fifa-football-agent-regulations\" data-type=\"matiere\" data-id=\"1899\">FIFA Football Agent Regulations<\/a> then sets the following caps:<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:list --><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<li><strong>5%<\/strong> of the player's or coach's annual remuneration up to USD 200,000, then <strong>3%<\/strong> above that, when the agent represents the individual or the engaging club;<\/li>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<li><strong>10%<\/strong> up to USD 200,000, then <strong>6%<\/strong> above that, in the case of permitted dual representation;<\/li>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<li><strong>10%<\/strong> of the transfer compensation when the agent represents the releasing club.<\/li>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:acf\/block-goodtoknow {\"name\":\"acf\/block-goodtoknow\",\"data\":{\"block_goodtoknow_text\":\"These caps have been suspended worldwide since \\u003ca href=\\u0022http:\/\/FIFA Circular no. 1873\\u0022\\u003eFIFA Circular no. 1873\\u003c\/a\\u003e of 30 December 2023. On 16 July 2026, the CJEU ruled in the RRC Sports case that the principle of a cap could be justified, without, however, reinstating its application. The suspension remains in force, but the caps are still part of the exam syllabus.\",\"_block_goodtoknow_text\":\"field_block_goodtoknow_text\"},\"mode\":\"preview\"} \/--><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:heading {\"level\":3} --><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>In France, a 10% cap and no fees on minors<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><!-- \/wp:heading --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>France also has its own sports agent licence, issued by the French Football Federation (FFF) for domestic deals, in addition to the FIFA licence required for international deals. Article L.222-17 of the French Sports Code (Code du sport) sets the agent's maximum remuneration at 10% of the contract value.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Article L.222-5 also prohibits any remuneration for the agent on a contract relating to the sporting activity of a minor. This rule directly affects agents starting out with young players in academies. In France, therefore, no fee can be received on these contracts while the player is a minor.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:heading --><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How much does a FIFA agent really earn at the start of their career?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><!-- \/wp:heading --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>No reliable data makes it possible to establish a <strong>beginner FIFA agent salary<\/strong>. The only official source remains <a href=\"https:\/\/fifa.sportsagentinstitute.com\/en\/blog\/football-agents-report\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1019\">FIFA's report on agents<\/a>, which is limited to international transfers, although a few of its figures already reveal the broad trends.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:heading {\"level\":3} --><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A market concentrated in the hands of a minority of agents<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><!-- \/wp:heading --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>The Football Agents Report 2025 shows a considerable gap between licence holders and <strong>agents who actually get paid<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:list --><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<li>10,525 people held a FIFA agent licence as at 4 December 2025;<\/li>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<li>only 1,559 agents received service fees from clubs on an international transfer, and 1,829 (16.7% of recorded licence holders) represented a player in one;<\/li>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<li>service fees paid by clubs reached USD 1,366.8 million (around \u00a31.02 billion), up more than 90% year on year;<\/li>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<li>around 70% of this amount went to agents acting for the engaging club;<\/li>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<li>the 348 fees above USD 1 million accounted for 68.4% of the total.<\/li>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>The most common fee bracket lies between <strong>USD 10,000 and USD 100,000<\/strong>. FIFA points out that these figures exclude domestic transfers, contract renegotiations and fees paid by players. Agents' actual income is therefore higher, although no public statistics make it possible to measure it.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:heading {\"level\":3} --><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Free transfers: familiar territory early in a career<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><!-- \/wp:heading --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>An <strong>agent at the start of their career<\/strong> may find themselves working on low-value or free transfers, particularly with free agents. For an <strong>agent just starting out<\/strong>, income therefore relies mainly on the fees linked to their own players.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:heading {\"level\":3} --><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The order of magnitude of a fee early in a career<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><!-- \/wp:heading --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Take the example of a fictional player who signs abroad for <strong>USD 40,000 gross per year<\/strong>. Using the 5% cap set by the FFAR as a benchmark, the service fee would be USD 2,000 per contract year, or around <strong>USD 167 per month<\/strong>, paid in four quarterly instalments of USD 500. Three deals of this kind would therefore represent <strong>USD 6,000 gross per year for the agent<\/strong>, before tax, social contributions and business expenses.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>This calculation is neither an average nor a projection. It simply gives an order of magnitude for a fee linked to a modest contract, far from the largest sums seen in the transfer window.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:heading --><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The costs to cover before the first income<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><!-- \/wp:heading --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Before earning their first fee, an aspiring agent must pass the exam and then maintain their licence every year. The FFAR governs services related to completing a transaction, and these ancillary activities can supplement fees that are still irregular.<\/li>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:heading --><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What to remember about a beginner FIFA agent salary<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><!-- \/wp:heading --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>A <strong>beginner FIFA agent salary<\/strong> does not really exist in the way it does for an employee. Agents are paid through service fees, and a large share of this income goes to a minority of professionals who handle the biggest transfers.
